Hervey Bay Sites to See just for Starters

Hervey Bay sites to visit on your Hervey Bay holiday exist for every taste, and budget. If you just wish to take in a few of the local geographic features and public facilities then this page is for you. Following is a list of just a few of the free or nearly free attractions you can enjoy in Hervey Bay.

First, and most importantly is the main attraction, the wonderful sandy beach. The beach runs all the way from Pialba to Urangan. The Esplanade (The roadway) runs the entire length of the beach front so access is unlimited.

Hervey Bay Beach and Blue sky

Take your picnic basket, a ball or your cricket set an enjoy a bit of exercise with your friends or family. Of course if you're just out to blob with a good book then you won't have any problems finding a space to stretch out in the sun. A sun that never seems to lose it's heat in this latitude.

If you forget the picnic, don't panic because numerous cafes and convenience stores dot the Esplanade, and are all within an easy walk of the sand and sea. There are two cafes that actually sit beside the beach, one at Scarness and the other at Torquay. They will serve you up a snack, light meal and/or drink of your choice to enjoy while you look longingly out at the placid Hervey Bay waters.

Urangan Pier and Peppers

If you like to mix it with the younger set and serious sunbathers then head on to the beach in front of the numerous backpackers that dot the esplanade.

If you prefer a stretch of beach almost all to yourself then head to Shelley Beach, be sure to take a sand chair or towel to lie on as small ants like to come and visit. We recommend the Fish and Chip shop across the road for a quick lunch on the sand - they cook with Rice Bran Oil so don't feel too guilty - anyway nothing beats a feed of chips on the beach with the kids.

Hervey Bay Beach Sand and Sand Castles

A big thumbs up for the Fraser Coast Regional Council for the effort they have put into upgrading the beach front facilities and other Hervey Bay sites. There are numerous picnic shelters dotted along the Esplanade offering picnic tables, water, and most importantly free access electric barbecues. That's right, free barbecues to use at any time of the day or night - great for those days when you just don't want the day to end, so grab some snags and start cooking.

Other Hervey Bay Sites to see include the Urangan Pier , this has been restored to it's earlier glory with further improvements due to begin. The Regional Council has put a lot of effort into creating a feature and icon from this historic and economically important landmark, which is used as the banner graphic for this website.

Other activities include GoKarts and the Swimming Complex and many more. Further information is listed here: Sunny Day Activities
